shadow vases

In the winter of 2024–2025, I received funding from Creative Scotland to undertake a three-month experimental project developing my skills in raku firing. The project culminated in the creation of four vessels, the ‘shadow vases’, in which I explored form, shadow, and the striking black-and-white finish characteristic of raku. Each vase was coil-built, then decorated by following the lines where shadows fell, translating what I observed into a raku surface.
